Eddie, Benjamin P. Cheney,jr, a director of Wells Fargo, had that Memorial inscribed on a bronze plaque and placed on Silas St. John’s headstone in 1941. Sadly, several years later the bronze plaque was stolen. When working to replace the bronze plaque, Wells Fargo realized an important fact, Silas St. John never worked for Wells Fargo.

      Thanks Robert for that information on Silas St. John. From San Antonio, the Military Road and Postal Route ran west to Ft. Inge, just south of current Uvalde, and beyond, then turned towards El Paso. ... more
