I watched this a while ago and the three things that come to mind right now are the fact that I love that she travels to the locations Doc did to get a better sense of his life. I recall in particular that she noticed the fact that ain’t nobody going to Dallas Texas for the dry climate to ease their TB. That would have never occurred to me - yet another example of my ignorance with regard to the weather and climate of the southern US (It took me a good long while to wrap my head around the fact that it was lightly snowing the day of the shoot out in Tombstone)…
The second is that I’m surprised Val Kilmer’s dialectic coach that he got to help him learn a period and class appropriate Georgian accent got it wrong. Apparently the accent he used is more like that of Louisiana?
And lastly, I found it odd that she felt such an intense connection to a photo of Doc Holliday that, in all likelihood, is not a photo of Doc Holliday… well I guess she was right in that no one has proven it’s not him, although really that is a burden of proof fallacy.
1. She states that Tombstone has gone to a lot of trouble to preserve the way the town looked back in the day. In fact, Tombstone burned almost to the ground after the Gunfight, so almost nothing there... more
There’s no need to try to correct her on your first point. Tombstone did in fact go to great lengths to preserve the period look. In fact a massive plan was rolled out 50 years ago that restored the... more

appears more related to gaining income for the purpose of buying into poker games. Of course, this is nothing more than an educated speculation on my part.
I was referring to when he left his dental practice in Griffin Georgia after being diagnosed. That was when he reportedly headed west, at least in part, for “drier climes” as advised by his doctor. Which... more
If the son of a white man prominent in the community killed a black kid right after the Civil War, he wouldn’t need to flee. He could reasonably expect to be acquitted—or not even charged—since the local... more
Sarah, have you ever heard of ‘temporal tunnel vision’ ? What you are describing did not occur until later, at least not until after the yankee occupation of Georgia ended.
Very accurate summary. The yankee occupation army had a very tight grip on the former confederate states. Basically it was a martial law environment with southerners being subjected to a military... more
Karen, At a young age, I became interested in Doc. We were both born in Griffin, and attended the same church. The preacher at the 1st Presbyterian told me that a famous man named John Henry Doc Holliday... more
Apologies, I did not see your message until just now. I will keep an eye out for it, thanks for the heads up! So do you think Val Kilmer got the accent right? Or at least a feasible representation?... more
Years ago, one historian familiar with period local accents said that an accent could vary between northern and southern Georgia. I don't remember who posted that, but it was very interesting.
