Is my math right?

Reading through the thread about Doc’s search for a drier climate for his tuberculosis, I got to wondering: how long did Doc live with the disease? I’ve read that he earned his dentistry degree before he was legally old enough to practice, and the college would not issue his degree until he turned 21. Then I read that he was diagnosed almost immediately with tuberculosis. He lived to be about 36, so my math tells me he fought TB for *fifteen years*. I can’t imagine his agony—no penicillin, no real cough medicine, nothing to ease the pain but whiskey.

Do these numbers sound right to you guys?
