True, but it would be an example of his LYING about shooting the sheriff.

This article appears written entirely for an Australian audience. The name “Earp” would have been unknown at that time. It wouldn’t have been a case of cutting down a tall poppy.

And the correspondent makes it sound that this windy was more than just a casual reference.

Wyatt used to regale friends such as Parsons with stories of his Tombstone days.

I think Olds hit the nail on the head about his reported gruffness. He wanted to make sure his story was reported his way. Without the warts.

the deputy...Far be it from me to point out the flaw in this jewel, but the article contains an anecdote about Earp, not an actual quote. Nor is it an example of Earp boasting of his shooting the sheriff...... more

      • Peter, there is NO credible evidence of Earp bragging to Parson's or anybody else. Any journalist who ever interviewed Earp ended up frustrated trying to elicit any information. ... more

BJ The idea that only Wyatt Earp, one man, could tell the true story of the west, seems absurd.

The context of Bat's statement was Wyatt's time in the west.

Joyce Yes, it’s hard not to get the impression he was, in some ways, a bit of the “tenderfoot “ although he did become a leading Vigilante later. And he was a stiriver like many of them, and had a... more
