...such an artifact would be the recorded testimonies of the various witnesses and the newspaper reports. Of course, they are not without fault, but they are what we have, and if we examine, scrutinize, and compare with reason and logic we should get a fairly accurate picture of what went down.

The important point is that...they were there, and we were not; so that is what we have and we can analyze all the testimonies and get some good answers. At least we should be able to get enough truth out of such an examination to know who caused the problem.
