Thanks Gobs...I've been looking at contemporary newspaper accounts of Dan Ferguson killing Thomas Steele . The newspapers state that Dan Ferguson was 23 years old and from Nebraska . His father's name was Adam Ferguson and lived in North Platte, Nebraska. The newspapers went on to say that Adam Ferguson was on the staff of the Commander in Chief of the G.A.R.
I took a look and found Adam Ferguson and his wife Ellen Mary living in North Platte, Nebraska. They Indeed had a son named Daniel Ferguson. To be exact, his name was Daniel M. Ferguson. Daniel was born October 1, 1859 in Pennsylvania. He died June 13, 1944 in Alameda, California. So far I haven't found a document that tells me what his middle initial " M " stands for...Perhaps Miller??

Gobs and Robert, Silva cites a letter from Stuart Lake saying that Danny Ferguson served with Wyatt as deputy sheriffs in Coeur d'Lane, so it sounds like that makes it a lock. However, I'm curious what... more
