Big disappointment ... short sensationalist stories ... no index ... repeats the "fact" that Wyatt was a claim jumper rather than the whole legal entanglements involved ... see "Wyatt Earp & Coeur D'Alene Gold!: Stampede To Idaho"

Here's another view ...

"A.J. Pritchard discovered gold in the CDA region in the fall of 1882. The Earps along with 4 other men set about locating claims and challenged Pritchards right to tie up extensive land holdings. Pritchard sued the Earps and won on a claim that he said the Earps had jumped. The Earps were listed as locators on 4 mines in the area. The Consolidated Grizzly Bear, the Dividend, the Dead Scratch, and the Golden Gate. Between running a saloon and locating mines, Wyatt took another job. The exiled U.S. Marshal became the deputy sheriff of Kootenai County. He was know as a brave deputy who was involved in settling and disarming several disputes. But after the CDA gold rush petered out and many of the hard fought claims were subject to court challenges. The Earps came up losers and left the area."

And my only point was an is that Wyatt Earp was a claim jumper. One can take the position that he was challenging Prichard's claims - and Prichard made more than one claim. Prichard eventually won all... more
