Olds, I'm pretty sure that this means it was a reprint from the TOMBSTONE PROSPRECTOR newspaper.
Gatto believes Ringo committed suicide.
Because of the upside down gun belt, the missing piece of scalp, the fact that the undershirt strips tied around his feet were virtually free of dirt, when the area surrounding his resting place was muddy (if you are planning to spread your brains on the tree you are sitting on, you don’t take time to put pieces of your undershirt on your feet to protect them from the elements), modern forensic studies that find only about 25% of suicides by pistol continue to hold onto the weapon, not to mention the whole controversy about his hat, the fact that former and current law enforcement officers posting on this board are all over the place in terms of suicide vs. homicide, , Leslie’s confession to Yuma prison guard Frank King, the fact that Ringo’s enemies included several large cattle and sheep outfits including Hookers’, Vail’s, Martins, and Downing’s, very possibly Wells Fargo, Wyatt Earp and/or his allies, friends of Morgan Earp, and the fact that his good friend and partner in their San Simon ranch, Ike Clanton, would, in all probability, profit from his death, I’m not convinced it was a suicide.
Two interesting articles from A 1973 Cochise County
