Returned to having the threads expand on the main page again but added some CSS flair for fun.
Agreed about finding a thread, it's sort of a pain. Also, there's an extra unneeded click to even get to the thread replies to find the new message.
The "1 more message" thing is a feature from the original site. It's configurable how far you want the threads to expand into potentially oblivion on the right side of the page (If you don't have it limited by CSS). It was set on the default value of 15, I just bumped it up the max of 30. (Actually, the max is whatever... I just have it limited in the admin section.) Decreasing the number of threads to render on the main page helps loading speed though. Good news is I just made some changes that should speed things up a bit when the site's under heavier load.
Btw, you have an account from when you created the temporary UCL board here. When logging in, if you click on the "remember me" it basically remembers you forever so you don't have to log in again. I can't remember the last time I had to log in where I didn't log out beforehand.
I think I signed up when testing or creating a board or something, but I'm not logged in now... It's hard to tell when there's a new message. I had to go digging to find these ones and can't imagine what would happen if we had a thread split into two or three pieces that were randomly replied to.... more
Completely agree. Changed it back-ish.- Erik_,Tue Jul 19 2022 1:35am
I don't hate it, but it's not instant love either. Maybe it'll grow on me? Oh. Yeah, that's right. Can't create a forum without an account. You mean you don't clear your cookies on a regular basis? I do, but only the yummy ones that you can get from the store. If a 3-pack of cookies makes... more
I don't "hate" it and it's sort of useful to help remember what the thread was about but it is also sort of ugly. I added a highlight to the "current thread" when you're in replies. That I do actually like. This computer, I don't really clear cookies too often. I have uBlock and other things as... more
What if you didn't make it quite so obvious? Or um maybe made it *more* obvious with actual Petunias and Roses (I'm sure there's a Unicode symbol for them... it has everything else!) I rely on uBlock because deleting cookies is annoying. Especially when you have to log in again, but if you're not... more
I can't believe it was possible to do that with CSS. Looks "good" (actually bad, but what I expected it to look like) in Firefox but looks bad-bad in Chrome because it renders the unicode symbols in all black instead of with colors. ...actually, it looks like it's just my Chrome desktop browser doing... more
It's just weird and silly enough to be fun. You have to open the Password Manager on your device and type the password in manually on the other device. There's some cloud-based services out there, but what happens if they guess your cloud-based password manager password? You can save the file and... more
Probably could be made to look nicer with some more work put in (ex: Starting the flowers not at the center of the character like they are now on the edges) Ah, so is that sort of like the password section of Firefox? It lists all the URLs you have passwords saved for and you can then click on the... more
I'm wondering if websites will just start assigning you a password that fits their requirements (I should find a "high profile" website with such restrictive rules there's only like 16 passwords available and brute force them all--then publish it.) I keep it on the computer only, anything that I need... more
